Weekly Market Analysis

Hey everyone!

We had a bit of a mixed week for the Santiago1000 portfolio, dipping by -0.88%. However, there were some bright spots with $DELL and $SMCI leading the gains. Dell Technologies ($DELL) was a standout performer, up +7.47%, thanks to strong earnings and positive market sentiment.

The S&P 500 managed a modest gain of +0.6%, despite some volatility and profit-taking ahead of a massive $5.5T options expiry event. It was a significant week as the index surpassed the 5,500 point level for the first time ever! Meanwhile, the Dow ($DJIA) climbed +1.5%, and the Nasdaq ($QQQ) stayed flat.

Highlights

One of the major stories was Nvidia ($NVDA), which briefly became the world’s most valuable company, surpassing both Microsoft ($MSFT) and Apple ($AAPL). Nvidia’s shares have skyrocketed 180% YTD, driven by the booming demand for AI chips.

In a different arena, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy highlighted the mental health risks associated with excessive social media use among teens. This could lead to more scrutiny on platforms like TikTok, YouTube ($GOOG), Snapchat ($SNAP), and Instagram ($META).

Investment Decisions

Purchases:

  • Added shares of Dell Technologies Inc. ($DELL)
  • Added shares of iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF ($SOXX)

Sales:

  • Sold all positions in Modine Manufacturing Company ($MOD)
  • Sold all positions in Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Class B ($BRK.B)

I’ve been closely monitoring the market and evaluating potential opportunities. These adjustments aim to optimize returns and align the portfolio with evolving market dynamics.

Predictions and Strategies

The market continues to show resilience, with strong performances from key tech stocks like Nvidia ($NVDA) and consistent gains in sectors like consumer discretionary. Despite the recent dip, I remain optimistic about our long-term strategy. We’ll keep focusing on companies with strong fundamentals and growth potential.

Investment Tips

It’s crucial to be realistic about the potential of poorly performing investments. There’s no guarantee that a stock will rebound after a decline. Recognising when to cut losses is important, and there’s no shame in admitting mistakes. Judge companies on their merits and consider if the current price justifies future potential.

I thank everyone for their trust. Let’s continue to grow together!

Until next time,

Santiago
