For over 7 years I’ve followed my own quantitative strategy to decide what enters, exits and how much weight each name carries in my Popular Investor portfolio on eToro. This week, the system made a call worth sharing publicly: Micron Technology (MU) is now my largest position, ahead of NVIDIA.
This isn’t a turn against NVIDIA — which remains a solid #2. It’s the natural outcome of following numbers instead of narratives.
The Micron MU move in seven days
Between 01/05 and 09/05, the Micron MU allocation jumped from 4.93% to 7.53% — a 2.6 percentage point increase in a single week. The top five positions in the portfolio now look like this:
| # | Ticker | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | MU | 7.53% |
| 2 | NVDA | 6.55% |
| 3 | FIX | 6.11% |
| 4 | VRT | 5.87% |
| 5 | GOOG | 5.43% |
The read behind the move
Micron MU has been climbing my internal ranking for weeks — not on a single catalyst, but on the convergence of three signals.
The memory cycle has turned. Demand for HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) — the memory that feeds every AI accelerator and every NVIDIA GPU — is transforming Micron’s economics. Prices have recovered, margins have expanded, and visibility into 2026 and 2027 has improved substantially.
A unique strategic position. Only three companies in the world produce HBM at scale, and Micron is one of them. Whoever builds GPUs needs HBM. Whoever builds servers needs HBM. It’s a silent bottleneck in the AI infrastructure build-out, and whoever controls it captures that pricing power.
Confirmed momentum. Technically, Micron MU shows strong relative strength and a confirmed breakout. The system combines fundamentals and momentum, and when both align, weight rises.
System discipline
Micron MU is now close to my 7% maximum position cap. Further appreciation will force rebalancing — behaviour designed to avoid excessive concentration, even in the strongest convictions. Likewise, when a position loses signal (recent case of RHM.DE, which exited the portfolio), weight goes to zero, with no drama.
The rule is simple: weight follows conviction, and conviction follows scores. No narratives, no ego.
A risk to keep on the radar
Memory is historically a cyclical sector. The current moment is exceptionally favourable for Micron, but periods of strong pricing power tend to end abruptly. The system is designed to signal that turn before emotional reaction kicks in — and that’s exactly why I prefer this approach to intuition.
