(Seeking Alpha) Stocks ended their July rally on a high note as strong quarterly earnings reports from Apple, Amazon and Facebook after the close on Thursday continued to boost tech shares. Apple’s blowout quarter and 4-for-1 stock split sparked shares +10.5% higher to an all-time high $425, Facebook rallied +7% and Amazon advanced +3.7%, while Google parent Alphabet fell -3% after posting better than expected earnings but also its first-ever quarterly revenue decline. Optimism also perked up as D.C. lawmakers said they would meet on Saturday to discuss the latest virus stimulus package after bickering for most of the week. Antitrust hearing roundup

Big Tech came under the national spotlight as four of its leaders – Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Jeff Bezos, Google’s (GOOGGOOGL) Sundar Pichai, Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Tim Cook and Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) Mark Zuckerberg – appeared before the House Antitrust Subcommittee investigating the market dominance of online platforms. The biggest questions centered around Amazon’s leveraging of seller data to introduce competing products, as well as the revelation of uckerberg’s emails about the concept of buying startups in order to “neutralize a competitor.” While Silicon Valley has vast control over what the world sees, reads, buys and does online, it has also showered blessings on the consumer and has allowed people around the globe to stay connected even during an unprecedented pandemic.

5 Tech

Four of the big 5 tech companies, which include Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) put on a show with earnings Thursday, as the near collective $5 trillion in market value helped lift the Invesco QQQ (NASDAQ:QQQ) ETF higher in after hours trading amid stronger than expected quarterly results.
